Port of Kiel

Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Kiel, Schleswig Holstein, Germany)

Located in the north of Germany about 60 miles north of Hamburg and just south of the Danish border, the port of Kiel is a busy facility handling over 50 crossings per week to Swedish, Danish and Lithuanian destinations.

The port itself is large and modern, with three passenger terminals and extensive facilities, including a selection of shops and eateries.

All three terminals have car parks and are equipped to deal with those passengers who have special needs. In addition, the city centre of Kiel is only a short walk or train ride away and is a buzzing port town with numerous attractions.

Ferry Services

There are four passenger ferry companies servicing four separate destinations from Port Kiel: to Göthenburg in Sweden, Oslo in Norway, Bagenkop in Denmark and to Klaipeda in Lithuania.

Stena Line operates the popular Kiel to Göthenburg route every day with large, conventional ferries that depart at 19:30. The crossing time is 13 hours, 30 minutes.

Color Line provides another fairly long service, running from Kiel to Oslo overnight. Ferries leave at 14:00 and take 19 hours to reach the Norwegian capital.

The shortest ferry service from Kiel is to the nearby port town of Bagenkop on the southwest of the southern Danish island of Langeland. This service is run by Langeland ferries and runs twice daily with a crossing time of just 2 hours, 50 minutes. There are no departures on Mondays and just one on Sundays.

There is also a daily passenger/cargo service to Klaipeda in Lithuania which is run by Lisco Baltic Service and takes about 24 hours.
