Port of Kiel

Land Transport and Travel To and From Port Kiel
(Kiel, Schleswig Holstein, Germany)

Getting to and from the port of Kiel is straightforward, with a nearby bus station and train station serving destinations nationwide. As with elsewhere in Germany, the roads in Kiel are superb so driving is a viable option.

Taxis are available for every ferry arrival and departure.

Travel by Bus and Shuttles

Kiel bus station is only a short walk from the ferry terminals and very near the huge Sophienhof. Buses run from here to Hamburg and regional destinations farther afield.

Car Hire and Road Travel

The A7, A215 and A210 autobahns provide fast access to Kiel from Hamburg and the A7 autobahn also runs down from the north and Denmark. The port of Kiel is less than one mile from the end of the A215 autobahn.

Although public transport to and from Kiel is excellent, German roads are also in good condition and very efficient; therefore, hiring a car is the one of the best options for exploring the area. There are several car rental companies in Kiel and booking a car online attracts the best rates and choice of car. You can arrange to be met at the ferry terminal.

Travel by Train

Hauptbahnhof Kiel is only a few minutes from the main ferry terminal and is directly connected to the German rail network. Frequent services run between Kiel and Hamburg, from where virtually any town and city in Germany is reachable by rail.

Car Parking

There are short-term and long-term parking spaces available in car parks at all three ferry terminals. Designated disabled parking spaces are also available and all car parks have 24-hour surveillance.

Travel by Taxis

Taxis provide convenient transfers from the ferry terminals to Kiel hotels, and the bus and train stations. They are available for all ferry arrivals. You can also get to Hamburg by taxi, although rates are expensive.
